Huawei Is Developing It’s Own Alternative Operating System To Android

0

Global and China’s largest telecommunication giant Huawei is said to be developing or developed already it’s own version of Android and Windows to be a replacement for the operating systems.

With the ongoing onslaught by the Trump’s regime towards the company, Huawei believes a time will come when the USA will ban importation of its products to the Chinese company.

The company believes some of those products that Huawei would be banned from using includethe world’s most popular operating systems Android for smartphones and Windows for personal computers which software is created by companies from the USA.

This concern arises from the ongoing legal battles that Huawei and the USA are undergoing. In December last year, Chief Financial Officer, and the daughter for the current owner of Huawei, Meng Wangzou, was arrested in Canada on the orders of the Trump administration on allegations that she defrauded many financial institutions breaching a ban by the USA on dealing with Iran.

Currently still under detention in Canada, she is undergoing extradition proceedings to have her sent to face the USA justice system.

The company days ago filed a suit in Texas court challenging a legislation by the US banning it’s state organs from using Huawei equipement. Huawei alleges that the legislation is unconstitutional in that it is being discriminatory in it’s treatment of the company.

It is not certain how the justice system of the US would judge on the matter, however, what is certain is that the US is determined in it’s intents.

The power of Live; Africa to the World

0

The fact that not everyone is able to make it out to each event, a comprehensive live coverage is the solution to help you reach those people who would otherwise miss. Connecting with your target audience at a live event is a great way to leave a lasting and positive brand impression.

When just one media house is responsible for taking care of everything at a live event, things can easily slip through the cracks especially if it’s as sensitive as one that has over 8 heads of states, but not NBS television.

For the past 2 days, 12th and 13th March, Uganda hosted the inaugural Africa Now Summit that had over 8 heads of states,1000+ delegates and over 20 African countries represented to address the challenges of young Africans. NBS television was the strategic media partner, tasked to cover the event live for two days in a row. The event was covered to the maximum, with flawless feeds that were crispy clean and clear with perfect sound, an all day streaming for viewers across Africa and around the globe to watch, basically leaving nothing to book.

An audience from all over Africa was able to engage in discussion about the event together, the timeliness of the picture made viewers feel like they’re at the event. As for the online audience, they all had one hashtag to follow and share opinions to stay connected with the event (#AfricaNow19). All over the web, people couldn’t help but thank NBS for bringing the event to the comfort of their phones, laptops and sitting rooms.

In the 10 years of her existence, NBS TV has been tasked to deliver on many occasions and I must say, they are living up to that promise.

Jumia, Africa’s leading e-commerce platform, has signed an important partnership with technology leader Xiaomi at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, giving millions of users in Africa easy access to Xiaomi products.

Through the partnership, Jumia will open the Mi official store on its platform and give Xiaomi access to millions of online customers across 14 countries in the continent, while Jumia will be able to offer Redmi Go (1GB+8GB) exclusively in Africa as well as other devices later in the year. The partnership will be supported by an ambitious joint-marketing plan over the full year 2019, leveraging Jumia’s digital assets and Xiaomi marketing capabilities, including the Mi fan community. This is the promising first step to a close partnership between both companies over the years to come.

“This partnership is very important for us, as it will definitely foster the smartphone adoption in Africa as well as support e-commerce penetration. Xiaomi and Jumia have very similar internet DNA and will serve a common purpose: delivering the best in class affordable smartphones along with the best shopping experience. This will be very beneficial for both companies and above all for the consumers in Africa”, said Jumia Group’s Senior Vice President Mr Romain Christodoulou, during the signing ceremony.

“We believe in working with companies that share our values and delighted to partner with Jumia to reach more Mi fans across Africa,” said Wang Xiang, Senior Vice President of Xiaomi. “The e-commerce model is part of Xiaomi’s DNA and we believe that working with Jumia will help us bring innovation for everyone across the continent.”

The partnership will initially cover Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Morocco, and Ghana, and aim to cover all other countries where Jumia operates. Most markets will be directly supplied from China, confirming the fast expansion of intercontinental trade in Africa.

Africa has seen the rise of affordable entry-level devices from price-focused brands especially from China, which remains a key driver of smartphone adoption in the continent. Smartphone penetration in Africa stood at approximately 36% in 2018, with the number expected to reach about 66% by 2025.

Cyber Security For A Modern Small Business

0

Every year, businesses of all sizes suffer from cyber breaches. Big names such as Home Depot, JP Morgan Chase, eBay, and Equifax get all the attention, but it can happen to any company. In the past year, hackers have attacked half of the country’s small businesses, and the number is rising. Most small business owners can’t afford an in-house IT department, so they’re especially vulnerable to phishing attacks and other scams. These attacks are impossible to predict, but most can be prevented. Below are a few ways for business owners to reduce the chances of a serious cyber attack.

Perform Regular Security Assessments

Routine security assessments are a good way to keep everyone accountable for the company’s security requirements. Working with a reliable third-party vendor is an effective way to shore up any vulnerabilities. By making it a daily, monthly, and quarterly process, you’ll catch changes that may have slipped through the oversight and approval process.

Implement Email Filtering Protections

An advanced email filter is one of the most effective threat response solutions because it prevents those threats before they reach the end user. These filters block emails, scan attachments and links, and remove embedded threats. Most malware gets in through email, and a good filter can stop it.

Give Users Strong Passwords

Weak passwords and policies are at the root of many data security problems, including ransomware. According to the 2016 State of SMB Cybersecurity Report, almost 60% of small- to medium-size businesses have no input into employees’ password practices. Furthermore, 65% of businesses with password policies don’t strictly enforce them. With a strong password implementation and hygiene policy, many attacks can be prevented.

Cybersecurity Awareness Training

How likely is the business to be phished? This is an important metric for any business, regardless of size. By 2027, the world’s spending on employee security training is expected to reach $10 billion. When new employees receive cybersecurity awareness training during the onboarding process, the likelihood of phishing attacks drops significantly.

Consider Endpoint Protection

Advanced endpoint protection is drastically different from run-of-the-mill antivirus and malware protection. It takes a multi-faceted approach to the protection of servers and computers. For instance, advanced antivirus uses behavioral heuristics and machine learning, has little effect on computer resources, and can protect against threats from a variety of sources. With endpoint protection software, you can rollback changes and restore files to their previous state.

Update the OS

Most ransomware targets machines using outdated versions of Windows and other operating systems. It’s crucial to keep software updated and to download security patches as soon as possible. Most manufacturers stop supporting OS builds after about ten years, which means that it’s important for you to take steps to secure your devices. Software vendors regularly fix product vulnerabilities, so an up-to-date system is one of the best malware protection methods.

In Closing

It’s impossible to predict how and when a cyberattack will come, but with the tips in this guide, you can greatly reduce your company’s vulnerability. Use these tips to audit your company’s current practices, and once deficiencies are found, you can use various threat response solutions.

Samsung Launches 3 S10 variants, an S10 5G and Folding Phone

0

While launching the 10th Anniversary of the Galaxy s10 phones series, global telecommunication giant Samsung launched 3 different sets of flagships, in San Francisco on the 20th February 2019.

The 3 smartphones in variations of s10, s10 plus and the s10e, have a full screen display a.k.a the Infinity-O display, with a punch hole for a front facing camera that was first debuted on the Huawei Honor View20, last month, which is in effect being popularized, if you had known about it.

Speaking of screen, the s10 and s10 plus have an in-screen finger print sensor as opposed to the side mounted sensor on the s10e variant.

They are like the iPhone X that came in 3 variants last year with the iPhone X, XS MAX and the XR. The s10 is the main device, followed by the s10plus. The s10e just like the s10e is the cheaper of the s10 series.

The devices are powered with the Samsung Exynos 9820 and snapdragon 855, some of the first few phones to be released with the latest Qualcomm chipset which is said to be 25% faster than the previous generation 845. The same chipset is already running in the Xiaomi Mi 9 that was launched just a day after the s10 gallant launch.

With the Android 9.0 pre installed and a new customized Samsung skin, the One UI for the s10 devices, useability is superb. Samsung with these 3 has maintained 3.5mm headphone jack that seems to be phasing out in the latest flagships such as the iPhone X, the Mi A2, among others.

The s10 and s10plus come with a triple camera set up for the main camera with a 16MP and two 12MP at the back, and a 1440 x 3040 pixels resolution.

The 3 devices come with a support of the wireless charging technology, and a reverse wireless charging, with a power share ability that also appears on the Huawei Mate 20 pro, allowing the devices to wirelessly charge other phones or the Samsung Galaxy Buds. This specification will not be able to work when the phone is under 30% battery, selfishly reserving a percentage for the device itself.

They all come with an all powerful CPU, Octa-core CPU with up to 2×2.8GHz and front facing cameras with a support for slow-mo video and 4K video recording.

Special features on the devices.

The s10.

It uniquely has a 88.3% body to screen ratio, a 6.1 inch screen, a 6GB and 8GB Ram, and an internal storage of both 128GB and 512GB, and a battery of 3400 mAh bigger than the s9 with a smaller 3000 mAh.

The s10 plus

This one is the bigger for the flagships with a 6.3 inch screen display, and is also styled the limited edition. It has an 87.5% body to screen ratio, and the biggest battery of 4,100 mAh. It is also the one to come with a two camera set up for the selfie with 10MP and 8MP.

What makes this device very special is that it comes with 12GB ram and an internal storage of 1TB almost assuring you with limitless space for your files and apps installations.

S10e also called the s10 lite

This comes with a 5.8 inch screen size and is the smallest of the with 1080 x 2280 pixel. It has an internal storage of 128 GB and a RAM of 6GB. It also has the smallest battery with 3,100 mAh.

It has 2 main cameras with a 12 and 16 MP and a front facing camera of 10MP.

Price wise.

The price for the s10 is $899 around UGX. 3, 299, 000, which is without the huge shipping taxes that Uganda imposes on imports that cross the border, so expect an increase of about 20% for each of the handsets.

The s10e is said to be the cheaper one, however, it is the same scary story. At $749, it does not come cheap and the limited edition of the s10plus costs $1,000

The devices all are ready for pre-orders and shipping globally starts on the 7th March 2019.

The Samsung s10 5G and the folding will phone be launching later on.

0

Going overseas for business or pleasure is a great experience for many travellers. Apart from seeing what another town, city or country has to offer different from your own, you also are able to meet with new people and interact with different cultures one has never encountered before.

However, from a communication point of view, travelling takes you away from your domicile country, cutting you off from friends, family and business since you can be out of reach.

MTN Uganda has now come up with a new innovation to alleviate the pains of non-communication when travelling making the travelers’ life even easier with the launch of the International Data Roaming Bundles.

The new offering from MTN will allow travellers load bundled offers for voice, SMS and data that allows them access the same communication services abroad just as they did when at home in Uganda.

“Our customers travelling overseas did not have international data roaming bundles for voice, SMS and data which forced them to use alternative service providers in the diaspora. The process of getting a new sim card or looking for an internet connection was a tedious one. With the launch of this new innovative international roaming bundle, we believe this offer will provide uninterrupted communication access regardless of where they travel to” said MTN Uganda’s Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Olivier Prentout.

In addition, the MTN Uganda CMO noted that when travelling overseas, the international data roaming bundles will offer a great way to reduce communication costs by enabling one have their mobile phone active (voice, data, text).

“By using the international roaming bundles, one is able to stay in touch with friends and family while overseas, and also means that you won’t miss important calls from clients as they can still reach you on your known mobile phone number while also accessing internet services as it were when in Uganda. This means one doesn’t have to purchase a new sim card and internet services” he said. What pain points does this new service relieve? 1. Endless purchase of new SIM cards 2. Getting access to Wi-Fi that doesn’t work or has endless T&Cs 3. Missing out on opportunities that come and go due to lack of internet access 4. Missing out on valuable communication time with friends, colleagues and family when traveling.

4 Ways To Improve Your Bad Cell Phone Signal

0

In the digital era, our lifestyle is totally dependent on smartphones. We use them not only for calling, but also for texting, browsing the internet, and watching videos. This means that a good cellular reception is crucial for a satisfying experience. Bad phone signal will result in dropped calls, bad voice quality, and slow internet connection. These can be so annoying and you can find yourself wandering around the room in order to get connected. Luckily, there are ways to fix it. Check the best ways to improve your bad cell phone signal!

What are the main reasons behind your bad cell phone signal? The obstructions between the cell towers and your phone can cause interference. This happens often in urban areas, where tall buildings can weaken the signal. On the other hand, the quality of the signal depends on the number of people that are using it. A single cell tower can handle a limited number of users at the same time. Or, the lack of cell towers in rural areas can also be the reason.

Use A Signal Booster

If you find it really difficult to connect in your area, then a mobile phone signal booster is very helpful. This type of devices take the existing signal and amplify it. Then, they rebroadcast the amplified signal in the area. No matter how weak the signal is, a signal booster will make it loud enough so your phone can pick it. This will result in enhanced internet speed, good connection, and good voice quality during phone calls.

The good thing is that you can purchase this kind of devices online. Sites such as https://hiboost.eu/ offer different types, so you can choose according to your needs.

Find A Good Location

If you find it difficult to get a good connection indoors, go outside. The building itself can be an obstruction. If the signal is still not picked up, try to move away from tall trees or other structures. Walk around and look at how the signal bars on your phone change. This way, you can find the spot with the best signal. If you find yourself in a rural area, make sure that you move to higher elevation.

Make sure that you locate the cell tower in your area. When you know where it is, move to the side of the building that is most close to the tower. The fewer obstructions, the better the signal is.

Don’t Block The Internal Antenna

Modern phones have internal antennas that pick up the signal. Make sure that you are not blocking it in any way. Try different positions to make sure that you are not blocking the signal with your hand. Also remove the phone case, as it can make a huge difference.

Charge The Battery

Low battery means that you can still use your phone, but it will impact the quality of the connection. When the phone’s battery is low, it won’t have enough power to search for reception. Make sure that you have it charged above 25% for the best results.
