OnePlus will unveil the One Plus X phone on October 29th

0

One Plus will not settle with one device this year following the launch of the One Plus Two which got made bloggers and tweeps whining over the flagship’s lack of NFC support. One Plus has published a blog post with an announcement of the launch event on the 24th of October.

The announcement shows an “X” branding on the invites to the event which will take place in London and OnePlus is definitely live stream the event basing on their previous VR launch of the One Plus Two.

The Rumours of the One Plus X are rather disappointing, basing on leaked screenshots, and mediocre specs such as a 1.9Ghz processor and a not so exciting body build that will house the 5.5 display. We will have to wait for the launch date to confirm these rumours and hope that OnePlus doesn’t “settle” this time round

All you need to know about the Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL

1

These guys announced a bunch of devices at the Microsoft event this year, 2015. We have already covered a story on the Surface Book in case you haven’t checked it out yet. In this round, we going to tackle all the need-to-know aspects of these other flagships from the Microsoft Camp, the Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL. We shall, however, concentrate on the specs for the 950 XL as these two devices are quite similar spec-wise.

Starting off is the killa 5.7” Quad HD AMOLED 2560 x 1440 display. This bad boy is joining Team Crispy as you already can tell. This beastly screen will be protected by Gorilla Glass 4.

Next up is the performance department where we have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 which is the latest octa-core generation processor. This device will definitely be running on Windows 10. With USB-C, we get faster file transfer and Fast Charging. There is an extra-large 3340 mAh battery and wireless charging. This battery can take in up to 50% capacity in just 30 minutes of charge. It also includes what Microsoft calls “tablet-class liquid cooling” to allow the phone to handle more powerful chips, which, at the very least, sounds awesome.

In the camera department, the Lumia 950 is rocking a 20 MP sensor that automatically reduces motion blur making photos sharper and more detailed. It also houses a triple LED natural flash that won’t stop you from taking great pics in low lighting environments. This camera will also be able to record video in 4K with Optical Image Stabilization on board.

Other new features include Windows Continuum and Windows Hello Beta. What Windows continuum does essentially is to enable you to scale up Windows apps like Work, Excel and Edge for PC-Like experience on an external monitor. While Windows Hello Beta on the other hand, helps you to unlock your phone simply by looking directly at the screen. It uses the Infra-Red camera technology for authentication.

The one big difference between the two phones is that the 950XL includes an octa-core processor, while the 950 uses a hexa-core processor. The Lumia 950 XL will be going for $649 as early as next month.

Microsoft answers Apple with an even Faster Surface Book

2

Tell Microsoft to lose a competition and ask for a pony while at it. These guys never lose.
What’s going on my homies? Hope you are in the process of upgrading your laptop artillery because, Microsoft has something good for you. Apple is well known for always claiming about how each product they release is the best in the world or the best they have ever made.
Borrowing a leaf from their close friends, Microsoft bluntly uttered that “This is the fastest 13-inch laptop ever made anywhere on any planet – it’ll be twice as fast as the Mac Book Pro.”
This oddly shaped thing Microsoft calls a Surface Book can double as a Tablet with a fully detachable screen and back-lit keyboard all cased in a magnesium body.

Surface Book
Surface Book

Being it’s first laptop, Microsoft has really surprised us by pulling off that 267PPi 13.5 inch display. It actually looks amazing… Am certainly leaving Team Retina Display.
The surface book rocks the latest Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, with Nividia GeForce GPU and upto 16 RAM. To optimally dig into its beastly power, you need to keep the screen docked to its keyboard where all its power is located. It is said to run for 12 hours on a single charge which is, a few hours longer than the Mac Book. The keyboard dock also comes with two USB 3.0 ports and an SD slot which is quite obvious although, USB-C is the in thing right now.
surfacebook
Oh and one more thing, the Surface book also supports the Surface Pen hahahaha what’s happening to people and these Styli? Anyhow… Surface Pen as you would expect must claim to be better than the Apple Pencil.

It’s ok for Apple to be worried or feel worse because honestly, what did it expect…. To dominate the world alone? Gerr outta here man, am saying…

That’s it amigos get ready to burst out that $1,499 or $2,699 if you feel like it, till next time… adios

Google will bring public Wi-Fi to train passengers in India

0

It was during the Indian Prime Minister  Narendra Modi’s visit to Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California, that Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai announced that the company will provide high-speed Wi-Fi service to 400 train stations across India.

This is part of an initiative by Google to bring internet access to one billion people in India without internet access. It’s not the first time the search company is rolling out a program to improve technology considering that Android One and Maps & YouTube Offline, have been in India for a while.

This Hi-speed WiFi  project will see Google’s Access & Energy team work with Indian Railwaysand RailTel to bring Wi-Fi to 100 of the country’s busiest stations — including those in major cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore — before the end of 2016, enabling 10 million passengers access the internet. The project will gradually expand to 300 more railway stations with time.

Public WiFi is something most of us love especially those who live in countries with expensive internet rates. I would be pleased to see such programs expand to Africa particularly Uganda.

NTV Go app review! A simply beautiful way to catch up with the news

NTV realised NTV GO as its Official Android app onto the Google Play store. Here are our thoughts on this beautifully designed app. Opening the app greats you with a beautiful splash screen and a Terms & Conditions prompt which you are most definitely going to accept. You then look at a few Material Design features as the app fetches News, we loved the Google card layout for the news thumbnails for each category, tapping any card loads smaller cards with well properly styled thumbnails.

The NTV Go App is great for those who need selective content or want to search for a news bulletin that aired the previous night and this will save your data unlike NTV Mobi which will require you to watch an entire live news show which can drain your data. My only issue is the App shows videos in a quality that is usually 480p which is bad for the rich kid who wants to watch the news videos in HD but this will save you a reasonable amount of data.

The feeds appear in a list form after an animation from the bottom unlike the usual apps where stuff appears like a ghost. Being a Television the articles are rather brief and either have a featured image or video from NTV which you tap to watch. Unfortunately tapping the video prompts you to open the official YouTube app, it’s not a burden though considering that it make the app rather light, Its a mere 12MB from the store. Trust me its 12 Mb you won’t regret.

Speaking of data, NTV GO keeps news on your phone and it will ask you how long you want old stories stored on your phone, this means you wont have to burn down tonnes of data every time you open the app. You also have the power to choose how often you want the app to refresh news. I was happy to see the option that gives me the authority to turn on or off notifications.

NTV Go carries an nReport feature which enables anyone report a story that can be aired on NTV Uganda using their smartphone, there is a text box for entering an article and a section that lets you capture or upload a video or audio of what you think will make the news. The nReport even has a template to aide users report news.

This app wasn’t just built to just work, its developers made it work beautifully work and still look stunning. Everything is smooth, beautiful and functional. This can only be seen in a few Ugandan apps like Matatu and Pearl Guide. My only concern with the App is the need for High Definition Content but since the station doesn’t upload HD videos, I will let that one slide, plus that means I will save a few Megabytes of data.

A few elements of material design were implemented and you will definitely love the colour hues, transitions and general outlook of the app. One thing you must keep in mind before downloading the app is its creators. There are many fake and unofficial NTV apps so search for NTV Go and select the app whose developer is CreativeDNA or use the link below. We must take our hats and express our appreciation to NTV for bringing to such a beautiful app. Download the NTV GO app from here.

The all new Apple Pencil

0

As you would expect, we had to kick this off with mocking the greatest Apple revolutionary… Steve Jobs. While Jobs was introducing the iPhone, he said and I quote, “Who wants a stylus? You have to get ’em, put ’em away, you lose ’em. Yuck! Nobody wants a stylus. So let’s not use a stylus.” Also a few years before the release of the iPhone 6 generation of Apple smartphones, Jobs convinced the world that nobody likes big phones.
What could be going wrong? Are the new guys at Apple trying to Screw up the man’s head or it’s actually changing Market demands?

All that aside, Apple has taken a huge step in the adoption of a stylus for its new iPad pro called the Apple Pencil. Harsh as it might sound, there was no major improvement apart from that accessory. It is literally a bigger iPad Air with a Pencil.

image

I wasn’t all that anxious to see what this Pencil could do since I have seen it all from the Kings, Samsung. But, the name choice got me thinking… Does it have a rubber or sharpener. Because, who can beat Johny Ive at assuring hommies.

The iPad Pro claims to know whether you’re using your finger or Apple Pencil. So when it senses the Apple Pencil, the subsystem scans its signal at an astounding 240 times per second, giving it twice the data points it normally collects with your finger. This data, combined with Apple‑designed software, means that there’s only milliseconds between the image you have in your mind and the one you see on the display. Meaning that you actually see the ink literally come out from the pencil unlike other styli that draw a line of ink seconds after the trace has already been drawn on the screen.

You can now draw lines of any weight since the Apple pencil uses accurate pressure sensors capable of measuring a range of forces. The carefully positioned sensor determines precisely how hard the tip of Apple Pencil is being pressed down. You can also draw thicker lines when you press harder or simply use a gentle touch for wispy hairlines. The variety of creative effects is virtually limitless.

image

This guy can go upto 12 hours of battery life and bursting upto 30mins of battery life for every 15mins of charge. It’s only $99 when you lose it.

A that aside, this is a really brave, smart and innovative move made by Apple. We are not sure whether ideas are running out or they are turning to whatever Steve Jobs hated. Either way, Apple never loses.
Till next time folks, keep checking here for more tech updates.

Hellofood now uses funky Software to Improve Delivery Process and customer Experience

0

Hellofood, Uganda’s leading online food delivery marketplace, has Introduced the V-work software now used by the company’s operations and delivery department.

The software helps to pin- point the exact location of the Delivery Riders or Boda bodas as they are commonly known, the Operations Team can see exactly where the riders are stationed. They are then able to assign riders who already have smart phones, to collect orders from restaurants while determining the amount of time it will take from pick time at the restaurants to delivery at the customer’s location and also send a softcopy of the exact order the customer placed to the riders.

Ron Kawamara, Managing Director HelloFood Uganda, said, “Customer experience is of utmost importance to us, and as such we continue to optimize and incorporate the latest technology to improve on it. And the obvious place to start is the delivery and operations systems. The software uses GPS to track the location of the riders and also furnish them with the exact orders placed by the customers which is better than calling them.”

“The software also helps streamline the dispatch process for the riders and thus operation system is now more efficient. This technology also helps the company maintain a level of transparency with customers who may be anxiously waiting on their meals and would like to inquire how far a long it will be before their meal arrives either to their office or home; as we are now able to accurately communicate with customers about their arrival of their meal, with accurate follow-ups,” Ron added.

For those that would like to take advantage of this New improved customer experience, or to see what else HelloFood has to offer, orders can be placed online at www.hellofood.ug or through the hellofood app, which is available for free on Android, iOS, Blackberry, and Windows Phone devices.
