MTN MoMoPay can be used any MTN Mobile Money registered customer at a registered merchant premise e.g. a shop (duuka), supermarket, pharmacy, salon.

MTN Launches ‘MomoPay’ To Enable Cashless Payments

0
After shopping at Masters Supermarket, Ntinda, Elsa Muzzolini - General Manager Mobile Financial Services at MTN Uganda confirms her bill before paying using MoMoPay.

MTN Uganda, in a bid to further Uganda’s cashless economy has today introduced to customers a payments solution, MoMoPay. MoMoPay allows customers to pay for goods and services at no extra costs. Retailers like supermarkets, wholesale traders, shop keepers, pharmacies, restaurants and bars among others are now merchants that accept payments using MoMoPay. For customers, they will be making payments for the goods and services using MoMoPay at no extra cost – like sending withdrawal fees.

“When we introduced MTN Mobile Money, it revolutionized money transactions in the country. However, there is still one problem we need to solve. That is reducing cash transactions by taking out withdrawal charges, which makes it quite costly. It is the better way to pay,” explains Christopher Ssali – Senior Manager Mobile Financial Services Products – MTN Uganda

For several months now, MTN Uganda has been recruiting merchants like supermarkets, garages, shops and restaurants among others. There are now in excess of 25,000 merchants that customers can use to receive payments. Upon a merchant being approved, they receive a special merchant code to indicate that they accept MoMoPay. For a customer to make a payment, they will dial *165*3# or use the MyMTNApp, enter the merchant code and pay the exact amount for the goods they have purchased.

“Currently, when customers want to make payments using mobile money, they will be asked to add withdrawal fees to the amount. With MoMoPay, the customer pays the exact amount for the goods purchased, providing that incentive not to move around with cash,” Christopher Ssali added.

MTN Mobile Money, which currently has over 8.8 million customers, has transacted over Ugx30trillion since inception in 2008. What still exists are the cash transactions that put customer and merchants at risk, when moving the money.

“The risks of carrying money by both customer and merchant are high, unlike MoMoPay. The merchant will receive payment directly into their mobile money account and they will be able to use it for several other features like making salary payments, transferring it to their bank account, purchase airtime for customers – and earn a commission, among others,” said Elsa Muzzolini, the General Manager Mobile Financial Services at MTN Uganda.

Merchants will be charged 1% on each transaction for an individual and 2% on a business merchant payment.

“The benefits for the merchant are many. They can earn commission for selling airtime. There will be improved financial control because they will avoid cash shortages and safety and security of the funds received, at the premises and for the merchant’s employees. Furthermore, merchants can even pay their suppliers with MoMoPay. For instance, a hardware shop may want to re-stock cement. Using MoMoPay, they will transfer funds directly to the account of their supplier and the cement will be delivered,” Muzzolini explains.

MoMoPay is the latest addition to Mobile Money’s arsenal of tools that helps combat the pain experienced by customers when making transactions. Over the next months, MTN will be looking to recruit merchants and where the MoMoPay will be displayed means payments are now acceptable.

The Itel P32 Review: Slender Pocket Size, Dual Rear Camera and Mega Battery Rule

My first experience with Itel mobile phones stretches back to last December when I got for myself the uncommon Itel P51 phone as a Christmas gift from a friend, being a heavy user I was somehow disappointed with the specs and its performance which forced me to relentlessly serve it out. In the wake of last month when the news of a new brand of P series hit the market with the P32 model, well my face lit up with excitement since better things come in newer packages I immediately rushed and got myself a piece.

Luckily for me, itel P32 ticked off most of the boxes when it comes to a decent low budget phone requirements for this year. These include the secure fingerprint scanner, an 18:9 IPS Full-screen display, 5.5. Inch screen and a good battery life. Since some people might argue otherwise, let’s first have a look at some positives and what you may not like about this device.

Display and Design

Itel P32 has a sleek slim light design which ultimately fits at the palm of your hands with smooth round edges and perfectly attractive slender finish. What catches your eyes first is the 5.5 Inch screen and the full body hard plastic cover won’t easily slip from your hands when holding. The 18:9 aspect ratio allows you to view more content without necessarily getting a bigger screen-size phone.

Like most luxurious premium phones, P32 can be unlocked instantly and easily with the multi-functional fingerprint sensor. The arrangement of Power and Volume buttons at the right side of the phone makes it easy to control and those with smaller hands can comfortably carry the 5.5-inch screen phone without any hiccups.

The display is bright even at the lowest brightness level it still hit your eyes strongly especially at night but the industry adaptive settings feature makes the user experience more pleasing. Other great features incorporated to make life easy includes the lock screen clean up, App freeze, storage manager and power saving among others.

Camera

This generation has been blessed with many fancy things thanks to the advancement in technology and in the smartphone conversation, camera quality is one of the discussions you won’t escape when it comes to comparing phone specs and performances.

In this department, itel P32 brings forth an exceptional experience at an unrivalled price. Though it is not at par with the industry standard the colour depths and exposure makes a good showing of the photos. Both the front and back cameras shoot at 2560 * 1920 pixels with some cool emoji elements and filters tones( Black and White and Blue options among others). The white balance exposure isn’t that great and makes you focus for a long time to get a clear shot.

There are 2 rear cameras (5MP and one with a 0.3 MP sensor), the front-facing camera has a 5MP sensor with 85-degree wide angle and the selfie photos looks pretty impressive. I won’t be wrong to say the camera quality can satisfy your photo needs unless you’re a photogenic and needs more likes on your Instagram photos then you can throw in more money for a bigger budget phone.

Battery

This slender beauty of a phone is even a beast when you compare to high-end phones that cost a liver and an arm to buy. The phone has a huge 4000mAh battery which has comfortably taken me straight 72 hours plus on one charge, I last charged on Saturday night until today yet am constantly connected to the internet though with a little phone activity but the battery life is something to be proud of. While some competitors boast of similar such battery size, such longevity is one of the profound smartphone memories some of us will live to tell.

Itel P32 Performance

In the words of great Ned Stark, “he who passes the sentence should swing the sword”, we urge you to remember it P32 demands a respectable package given its puny price. The Quad core 1.3GHZ processor is backed up by 8GB Internal storage and 1GB RAM. What really makes the performance of this phone stands out from other low budget phones I have used is the optimised Android Go version of the Android 8.1 Oreo. Google has done a tremendous job with this copy of Android and it’s a game changer.

In case you are unfamiliar with it, this is Google’s operating systems that have been optimised to work with devices of low powered processors, a small amount of RAM and storage and it mobile has struck a partnership deal with Google to feature it in P32.  The Go edition is remarkable and I can confirm my Temple run test has gone smoothly without any drawback.

What to like

  • Brilliant 18:9 IPS display
  • Humongous 4000mAh Battery
  • Decent Front-facing camera with 85-degree wide angle
  • Optimized performance without phone hang up

What not to like

  • One Speaker for audio output
  • 3G only
  • Camera components won’t satisfy your photo needs
  • Low phone storage

In Conclusion….

Itel P32 houses a number of modern smartphone features like fingerprint and big battery under one roof at an affordable low price budget, however, it counterbalances with some low elements like camera quality. The phone will take for you a nice shot but please do not expect it to rival the big boys in the block.

The performance has been okay so far maybe it will depreciate with time but I don’t expect it to with Google’s Go edition OS anyway if you are student on a tight budget or a business owner supplying phones to your workers, this is one of the best phones in the market you can go with and won’t break a sweat over its unmatched style and performance.

MTN Uganda Reports 8.8% Revenue Growth in Half Year Results

0

MTN Group today released the interim results for the first half of 2018. The results point to improved revenues – up by 10.2% – for the MTN Group, with Uganda being a major contributor to that growth. According to the results, MTN Uganda’s revenue expanded by 8.8% to Ugx734.4bn on account of improved data revenue and Mobile Money revenue exceeding expectations.

Commenting on MTN Uganda’s performance, the CEO Wim Vanhelleputte struck an optimistic tone, saying, “MTN is well positioned to deliver growth in the sector despite the shake ups experienced in the market recently that were occasioned by the newly introduced Excise Duty tax regimes on OTT and Mobile Money especially. Our half year results notwithstanding, I see MTN ending the year on a good note.”

Growth in Mobile Money revenue exceeded expectations and the number of active Mobile Money customers on Uganda’s leading brand and network NPS operator increased to 5.3 million. Mobile Money subscribers made up more than half the total subscriber base of 10.5 million, which declined slightly by 1.8%. The decline was as a result of the recent introduction of guidelines for the sale and replacement of SIM cards by the regulator, Uganda Communications Commission, between March and May 2018. Nevertheless, the number of active data subscribers rose to 1.8 million, helping lift data revenue by 17.8%.

“MTN will continue to innovate and explore in the area of digital services and enhance our offering in Mobile Money to position it as the immediate solution to money transfer. Expect increased engagement with our customer care service to enhance the experience. We intend to communicate more on all the work we are doing especially in the communities as CSR to expand focus beyond our core mandate,” Wim Added.

MTN Uganda’s performance was highlighted by Rob Shuter, the MTN Group CEO during the release of the results in South Africa.

MTN had an encouraging first half of 2018, with an acceleration in the second quarter, supported by an improved operational performance across many markets. This was led by Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and Uganda. Service revenue growth increased by 10.2%, driven by robust voice revenue growth and the continued expansion of data and digital revenue. This in turn was supported by a 2,8% increase in subscriber numbers, continued network rollout, increasing 3G and 4G population coverage and improving customer service,” Shuter said.

He cited opportunities in the Sub-Saharan markets and Middle East with the existing demographics as a key driver, characterized by growing populations and the low internet and digital penetration as potential areas to tap in, all falling within MTN’s strategy and mandate.

Here is How To Make a Group Video Call on WhatsApp

0

WhatsApp supports free video calling over Wi-Fi or mobile data, even to persons living overseas. For the most time, we have been only conversant with the individual video calls and not very many people actually know that there is an option for group video calls on WhatsApp.

In the past people had to use a third-party app to make group video calls with their WhatsApp contacts, now however, the functionality is available within the app for iPhone and Android. If you can’t find it you must have to update your app.

Today, we shall take you through the very easy step of making a call to multiple contacts at once.
Needless to say, to make an individual call, you just need to open the WhatsApp conversation of the contact you want.
Tap the video camera at the top right of the window, the video call will automatically commence and the recipient’s phone will ring.

For the Group Video Call, here is how you should go about it.

1. Open a WhatsApp conversation.
2. Tap the video camera at the top right of the window. The video call will automatically commence and the recipient’s phone will ring.
3. Once your recipient has answered, tap the add user icon at the top right corner of the screen.
4. Select a second recipient to add them to the call.
5. Once they have joined you can also add a third recipient

Alternatively, if you would rather make standard voice calls rather than video calls just tap the telephone icon instead of the video camera icon.

Android 9 Officially Launched, Digital Wellbeing coming soon

0

Coming along with a heaping helping of artificial intelligence baked in to make your phone smarter, simpler and more tailored to you, the Android 9 Pie has been officially launched.
It is built to learn from you and work better for you, the more you use it.
From predicting your next task so you can jump right into the action you want to take, to prioritizing battery power for the apps you use most, to helping you disconnect from your phone at the end of the day, Android 9 adapts to your life and the ways you like to use your phone.

The development comes with features like Adaptive Battery, which learns the apps you use most and prioritizes battery for them, and Adaptive Brightness, which learns how you like to set the brightness in different settings, and does it for you.

Android 9 also helps you get things done faster with App Actions, which predicts what you’ll want to do next based on your context and displays that action right on your phone.
For instance, when you’re preparing for your commute: you’ll be suggested actions like navigating to work on Google Maps or resuming an audiobook with Google Play Books. And when you put in headphones after work, you may see options to call your mom or start your favorite Spotify playlist. As if that isn’t enough, Android also promises to roll out (later this year) Slices which shows relevant information from your favorite apps when you need it.

They acknowledge that making your phone smarter and more adaptive is important and therefore want Android to be easier to use and more approachable. Accordingly, that is why they have introduced a new system navigation featuring a single home button.
“This is especially helpful as phones grow taller and it’s more difficult to get things done on your phone with one hand. With a single, clean home button, you can swipe up to see a newly designed Overview, the spot where at a glance you have full-screen previews of your recently used apps” they said in a statement.

In the new update, the Smart Text Selection(which recognizes the meaning of the text you’re selecting and suggests relevant actions) now works on the Overview of your recent apps – making it easier to perform the action you want. You can enable this new system navigation in Settings once you’ve received your update to Android 9.
“Changing how you navigate your phone is a big deal, but small changes can make a big difference too. Android P also brings a redesigned Quick Settings, a better way to take and edit screenshots, simplified volume controls, an easier way to manage notifications and more. You’ll notice small changes like these across the platform, to help make the things you do all the time easier than ever.

In a research, Android claims that over 70% of the people wish they could disconnect more easily off their phones and free up time for other things.
“So we’ve been working to add key capabilities right into Android to help people achieve the balance with technology they’re looking for” they asserted.
At Google I/O in May, they previewed some of these digital wellbeing features for Android, including a new Dashboard that helps you understand how you’re spending time on your device; an App Timer that lets you set time limits on apps and grays out the icon on your home screen when the time is up; the new Do Not Disturb, which silences all the visual interruptions that pop up on your screen; and Wind Down, which switches on Night Light and Do Not Disturb and fades the screen to grayscale before bedtime.

Digital Wellbeing will officially launch on Pixel phones soon, with Android One and other devices coming later this year. But these features are available in beta now for Pixel phones running Android 9. To try them out:
1. Make sure you’re running Android 9 Pie on your device. (Learn how to check which version of Android you have.)

2. Sign up for the beta with the email address you use with Google Play.

3. Accept your invitation to become a beta tester by clicking the link in your welcome email.

4. Once you’ve accepted your invitation, Digital Wellbeing will appear in your phone’s Settings app. It may take up to 24 hours for Digital Wellbeing to appear on your device.

In addition to continuously hardening the platform, and an improved security model for biometrics, Android 9 enables industry-leading hardware security capabilities to allow protecting sensitive data like credit card information using a secure, dedicated chip.  Android 9 also brings important privacy improvements, such as TLS by default and DNS over TLS to help protect all web communications and keep them private.
