Apple has introduced a new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by its M6 chip, with faster graphics, expanded on-device AI capabilities and updated wireless connectivity. Announced on October 27, the laptop starts at $1,999 in the United States.
The M6 combines a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU with Neural Accelerators and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple claims graphics performance is up to 30 percent faster than the M5 model, with AI workloads up to 25 percent faster. Those figures come from Apple’s tests and will vary by task.
What changes with M6?
The laptop starts with 16GB of unified memory, configurable to 32GB, and supports memory bandwidth of up to 170GB/s. Apple is positioning the machine for students, developers, business users and creators who need more power for editing, coding and running AI models locally.
Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 join an existing selection of ports: three Thunderbolt 4 connections, HDMI, MagSafe 3, an SDXC card slot and a headphone jack. The machine supports up to two external displays.
The 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR screen remains part of the package, with an optional nano-texture finish to reduce reflections. A 12MP Center Stage camera, three-microphone array and six-speaker sound system handle calls and media. Apple rates battery life at up to 24 hours, depending on use and configuration.
Price and release date
The M6 MacBook Pro comes in space black and silver. Pre-orders begin October 28, with availability from November 6 in participating markets. US education pricing starts at $1,899.
The announcement provides US pricing; Uganda retail prices and local availability were not specified. Buyers should also distinguish this M6 model from the separately announced touchscreen PROLED XDR models, which use M5 Pro or M5 Max chips.
