A twitter update today launched new twitter features like Group Direct Messages, Direct mobile capture and sharing.
You can start a private group conversation with up to 20 of your followers in form of group Direct Messages.
Users will now be able to use their mobile phones to record and share videos directly from the Twitter app. I believe this some sort of war against Instagram after the micro-blogging website asked it celebrities to stop sharing Instagram links and post photos directly to Twitter.
The recorded videos can be up to thirty seconds long and the app lets users edit the video within the app.
An iOS update has been pushed and an android update is on its way.

After announcing the new features of Windows 10 yesterday, Microsoft has announced that it will release Office 2016 during the late half of this year.
Much as Office 2016 features haven’t been announced, Microsoft will test the Office for Windows 10 in the coming weeks to offer an optimized version for tablets and touch enabled devices.
“We will have more to share on Office 2016 in the coming months, but this suite will remain the comprehensive Office experience you’re long familiar with, best suited for a PC with keyboard and mouse,” says Julia White, Microsoft’s Office general manager. “We expect to make Office 2016 generally available in the second half of 2015.”
Windows 10 will be free for a year.
This has already been talked about in our earlier stories. All devices running on Windows 7 and above will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 free of charge. Windows 10 has brought in a new concept on “Windows as a service”. It will also run on all devices including desktops, laptops, tablets, phones and hybrid devices.
It a huge change from the way Microsoft has been licensed in the past. The trick though is that you will have to pay after the One year trail period. Microsoft, however, confirms lifetime free service after the upgrade.
All devices will be able to access the Windows 10 experience
Microsoft pointed out the concept of a continuous experience across all devices. There have been reports of disruption that users get when they move from their desktop to their phone or tablet and vice versa. With a feature called Continuum, Microsoft wants to fix this problem. Users will be able to switch from desktop to tablet mode depending on the device being used at the time. It is also bridging the gap between the desktop and mobile versions of their OS such that apps work seemingly similar across all platforms.
Windows 10 on a tablet
This was followed by a demo on how Window 10 behaves on tablets. New features include a floating keyboard, replying instantly to notifications and pulling up the keyboard with a voice command.
Cortana to be brought to Desktop
Cortana will be launched from the task bar and will be used for search the same way the integrated search functions. Cortana will be sermoned by simply saying “Hey Cortana” then followed by your query like “What will the weather be tomorrow?”
Cortana will be launched from the Start menu
Users on desktop can also type in simple commands like a name of the app and a shortcut will be presented by Cortana which you can use to launch it. The Start menu is still present but Cortana is now caring out some of the functions there. She will also have a notebook which contains information about you of course. This is aimed at improving suggestions and you can remove anything Cortana learns about you to maintain privacy
Universal apps will work across all devices
Microsoft is aiming at developers building apps once and be able to run them on all windows devices from Desktops to Xbox consoles-so cool. Microsoft showcased how these apps will behave and be distributed.
Windows 10 Calendar app
The image you see is of the Calendar app that automatically adapts to the different interfaces. It also showed off the Ribbon interface in Word the way it appears in Windows Phones, this; it described as “nearly no compromises” experience. The advantage in this is that once you get used to a menu in a single device, the same functions are placed in nearly the same locations with a slightly different layout on different devices or platforms. This is a closely similar way Android handles its phone-tablet approach.
Project Spartan: The rebirth of the Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer has really face it rough. It has been beefed by most internet junkies despite it growing into a decent browser. Microsoft is said to be looking to the future with a project code named Spartan.
New Windows 10 browser
The whole browser has been torn apart and rebuilt from scratch. It has a ton of new stuff like an in-built notebook mode that enables you to freeze up a page and annotate it, some reading mode that strips down a website into plain text that will make reading easier, and lastly; an inbuilt PDF reader-cool stuff. Cortana is also integrated into the browser so most of the voice commands will work within the browser’s search bar. The browser also has auto prediction incorporated. For example, during the event; Cortana gave flight information when “Delta” was typed because it knows you are looking out for a flight. It also pulls up more information depending on the website you have visited. Like when you are looking up a restaurant, direction, menus, hours and more information pops up.
There will be an Improved Suite of built-in Apps
When Microsoft launched Windows 8, there was a bunch of new and improved apps. Not many were used unfortunately because the Modern-style interface was somewhat hard to use. Many of these apps are getting upgrades and updates that will not only stop at making them easy to use but also contain more handy features that make them more useful.
Improved Suite of built-in Apps
These apps for example contain Photos, Maps, Music, OneDrive, the People contacts app and more. These have been around for a while, no doubt but check them out when Windows 10 is unboxed.
Xbox also gets an app on the Windows 10 desktop
Picking a leaf from Steam’s generation, Microsoft has brought a new Xbox app for its Windows 10 operating system.
Windows 10 Xbox app
This handy app for Xbox live users will come pre-loaded on all Windows 10 devices allowing them to chat and also voice chat with all their friends, they will also be able to see all their games, screenshots and videos from players and record your own videos for any Windows app all on the app.
Xbox can now Stream to Windows 10 devices then play with a PC player
Gamers will surely love this one. Microsoft will enable Xbox One users to stream their games live to PC, games running on your console and stream across a Wi-fi connection to your desktop.
Xbox gaming with PC gaming
This means an Xbox player will be able to play live with a PC player. This will not however be running for all Xbox one game but some games will definitely exploit this feature.
The rumours were finally put to silence following the Whatsapp founder Jan Koum announcing on Facebook. He reported that the awesomely famous app has launched a web client were users will be able to send instant messages from the desktop version of Google chrome-How awesome is that? Jan also pointed out that the web is just an extension of the apps already familiar with. This practically means all the messages threads and interactions on web are also loaded live on your mobile device.
Whatsapp, however, is still a mobile-fast company. This is also evident in its set up procedure where a QR code must be scanned using your mobile handset. Reports say that the web client works best with Android, Windows phone, BlackBerry and BlackBerry 10. The iOS users for now, cannot join the fun as yet. Koum added that for the web client to work, you have to install the latest whatsapp app version on your phone which ofcourse may not be available for every one for now. They installed the latest version of Whatsapp on an HTC one M8 running of Lollipop custom ROM and it was lacking the web menu for scanning the QR code that is necessary for initiating the connection between the app and the web client; this, however, runs smoothly on the available devices-with an exclusion of Apple devices of course. Other devices like the BlackBerry, the web works like clockwork as soon as the QR code is scanned.
More tests are being carried out as we speak, one thing we know for sure is that the web client works and there is seemingly no lag what so ever. So if you want to try it out, please don’t hesitate
Microsoft normally charged a handsome charge for its operating system, during its Windows 10 event; they announced that it new OS, Windows 10 will be available for free for most of its users. The free upgrade offer will only last a year unfortunately. Microsoft is yet to announce how much it will cost after the free trial has expired. These were all put up by Terry Myerson an executive vice president of Microsoft’s Operating Systems group during the live event
Windows 10 event
The users who do not have Windows 7 and above installed on their devices will have to buy the Windows 7 upgrade. Windows 10 is said to run on all devices including, mobile phones, tablets, desktops, laptops and hybrid devices.
Once upgraded, the device will be kept current for supported lifetime of the device. Meaning this isn’t a one-time upgrade added Myreson
Microsoft is yet to announce the consumer release date of Windows date that is set to have an aspect of “Windows as a service”.
The Facebook owned WhatsApp has begun giving users of the 3rd party customizable WhatsApp clients like WhatsApp+ and WhatsApp MD for 24 hours until they switch to the official WhatsApp application.
Users are given a 24-hour countdown timer and directed to what appears to be an un-indexed page on WhatsApp’s official FAQ .
Its seems whatApp has figured out a way to check for the app version and signature which its using to ban users. Well it might take a while for third party Apps like WhatsApp plus which posted on its Google+ page asking its users to switch to the official WhatsApp App as a fix is being found.
This doesn’t seem like a war the third party apps will win because Facebook has made it a violation of Terms of Service. WhatsApp+ might find a fix but WhatsApp will definitely find a solution immediately forcing them to find another hack which might not be an easy task.
For now, please switch to the official WhatsApp application from Google Play or the WhatsApp website.
