These guys announced a bunch of devices at the Microsoft event this year, 2015. We have already covered a story on the Surface Book in case you haven’t checked it out yet. In this round, we going to tackle all the need-to-know aspects of these other flagships from the Microsoft Camp, the Microsoft Lumia 950 and 950 XL. We shall, however, concentrate on the specs for the 950 XL as these two devices are quite similar spec-wise.
Starting off is the killa 5.7” Quad HD AMOLED 2560 x 1440 display. This bad boy is joining Team Crispy as you already can tell. This beastly screen will be protected by Gorilla Glass 4.
Next up is the performance department where we have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 which is the latest octa-core generation processor. This device will definitely be running on Windows 10. With USB-C, we get faster file transfer and Fast Charging. There is an extra-large 3340 mAh battery and wireless charging. This battery can take in up to 50% capacity in just 30 minutes of charge. It also includes what Microsoft calls “tablet-class liquid cooling” to allow the phone to handle more powerful chips, which, at the very least, sounds awesome.
In the camera department, the Lumia 950 is rocking a 20 MP sensor that automatically reduces motion blur making photos sharper and more detailed. It also houses a triple LED natural flash that won’t stop you from taking great pics in low lighting environments. This camera will also be able to record video in 4K with Optical Image Stabilization on board.
Other new features include Windows Continuum and Windows Hello Beta. What Windows continuum does essentially is to enable you to scale up Windows apps like Work, Excel and Edge for PC-Like experience on an external monitor. While Windows Hello Beta on the other hand, helps you to unlock your phone simply by looking directly at the screen. It uses the Infra-Red camera technology for authentication.
The one big difference between the two phones is that the 950XL includes an octa-core processor, while the 950 uses a hexa-core processor. The Lumia 950 XL will be going for $649 as early as next month.
