It is close to 2 and half years now since the release of Windows 10 and ever since we have witnessed a series of updates. First the November 2015 updates then the Anniversary Update August Last year, came to the creator’s Update in April this year and we waiting on them for the Fall Creators Update.
Even though we all know Microsoft will always continue to push updates to Windows 10, Starting today they’re turning the heat to those people who do not make the latest updates especially with the latest version of OS.
From a support page, Microsoft says that from today, Windows 10 devices running version 1511 will no longer receive security and quality updates. Version 1511 is the November update that was released in 2015. Windows 10 version 1511 end of service impacts the following editions of Windows 10:
- Windows 10 Home
- Windows 10 Pro
- Windows 10 Education
- Windows 10 Enterprise
You may be wondering how you can check which version of Windows 10 you are running. Well you have two options: Go to Settings > System > About and check under version. Also, you can type winver on search then press Enter. This will show a dialog box that will show the Windows 10 version you are running.
Anyway, you may all be wondering What will happen if I continue to use my version of Windows 10? If you persist and still continue to use, your computer will still work fine without any problems but since you’re out of the update Windows for quality updates, your computer can become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses.
This move also shows that Microsoft wants people to continuously upgrade to the latest version of Windows so as to not risk getting crucial security fixes and cool updates.
