In a move to stop fake news, US social media giant Facebook is testing a new feature named the “Context” button that will be showing the source of the information.
The feature will enable users judge the credibility of the news from trusted news sources as well as eliminating the need of leaving the Facebook news feed to another site to get the same information like Wikipedia. And in cases when the information is not available,Facebook will also let the users know.
This button will come in handy as Facebook has been struggling to thwart the spread of fake news ever since the 2016 US presidential elections.
The announcement of the “context” button comes after US senators said they would ask executives from Facebook, Google and Twitter to testify at a hearing in November on alleged Russian efforts to manipulate internet platforms during the election campaign.
A Facebook source said a representative of the social network would attend the hearing but refused to say who.
