The Government of Uganda through the Office of the Prime Minister has this afternoon extended the deadline for Simcard registration with national ids to May 19th. In a letter that was written to the Executive Director of Uganda Communications Commission Mr. Godfrey Mutabazi by Hon Ruhakana Rugunda, the Prime Minster has issued a directive to have the date of the ongoing Sim Card Verification and Validation extended further to enable everyone register fully.
It should be noted that the very Prime Minister days ago had backed up the UCC for calling upon massive registration and validation of sim cards countrywide. It’s rather surprising that the Prime Minster has issued this directive.
The Government has reviewed the said timelines and has taken a decision that the ongoing SIM card verification exercise should be extended to the 19th May 2017. Here is the letter;
